Stone, metal, wood: reading the five elements

A lapis lazuli disc hung from a braided blue cord, resting on indigo silk.

The Five Elements are not a personality test. They are a way of describing change: metal that can be shaped and can cut, wood that grows and bends, water that finds the lowest path, fire that transforms, earth that holds.

We use them to talk about materials rather than about people. A lapis disc on a cord is a water piece because of the way it behaves in the light, not because of a horoscope.

If a symbol does not speak to you, it is not your symbol. Choose the one that does.
